A GRAND NATIONAL OPENING FOR THE NEW RETAIL DEVELOPMENT AT CARRINGTON CENTRE

The New Carrington Centre in Eccleston, Chorley was officially opened on Friday 11^th April in view of around 200 of the local community; and Grand National winning horses Hedgehunter and Ballabriggs were on site to assist in the proceedings. Hedgehunter won the National race in 2005; whilst Ballabriggs won in 2011.

A & S Holdings has acquired the New Carrington Centre from Northern Trust; but the scheme will still be managed by Northern Trust’s in-house management company Whittle Jones Charered Surveyors.

To celebrate completion of the works on site Sally Hardie from A & S Holdings formally unveiled a plaque at the opening event, which was held in Café Manna and was attended by occupiers at the new development. Sally Hardie commented, “We are thrilled to have this opportunity to be involved with the local community. We wish every luck to the businesses in residence and thank them for supporting this project, and this area.”

The 13,000 sq ft new retail parade includes a 4,000 sq ft Sainsbury’s convenience store, along with 8 shops including the post office, pharmacy and library. A spokesperson from Sainsbury’s said, “We’re really  pleased to have opened a new Sainsbury’s Local In Eccleston, which has created 20 jobs for the local community and provides a convenient place for local residents to top up their weekly shopping. The scheme is well designed and we believe our store will encourage more people to visit and shop in the centre.”

A spokesperson from Northern Trust added “We have worked closely with the local community, occupiers at the Centre, local authority and other key stakeholders in bringing forward the plans for the redevelopment of the Carrington Centre, and are pleased to see them finally come to fruition. Having the two Grand National winning horses on hand to showcase the new parade of shops is a fitting occasion for the centre which has brought significant investment into the area.

The plans at the Carrington Centre also incorporate a housing scheme which is being completed by Bloor Homes and consists of 62 family homes in a range of 3, 4 and 5 bedrooms, a proportion of which are affordable. In addition, as part of the overall plans Northern Trust secured the future of the football pitch on a long term agreement with the Parish Council.
